The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign, on Wednesday has nabbed a revenue Patwari Harjit Singh, posted at revenue halqua Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur district red handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said this case has been registered against the above said revenue official on the complaint of Mandip Singh, a resident village Malakpur in tehsil Dera Baba Nanak.
Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Patwari has already taken Rs 5,000 as a bribe in lieu of mutation of his land. The complainant further alleged that the accused has now demanded Rs 5,000 more in the name of Tehsildar for getting approval of the said mutation and he has recorded the conversation while the Patwari was demanding this bribe from him.
The spokesperson further added that the VB unit of Amritsar range has investigated the allegations levelled in the complaint and laid a trap in which the accused Patwari has been arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Amritsar range against the above mentioned revenue official. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.
